How often are you a runner pulled up on a pillow, yet faded in color and vibrant… beautiful? Don’t worry, I’m not alone. Even the softest pillows get stained over time, turn yellow and lose their freshness. But the good news is that you don’t need any aggressive chemicals or agents to return to that moment of liberation. Here are some simple, effective and 100% natural recipes for health.
Why should your pillows turn yellow… even under the covers?
You would think that a pillowcase would protect your pillow from everything, but that’s not really the case. Every night, it absorbs the pressure of the pillow, makeup residue, skincare products, and the entire air in your house. The result: yellow stains, lint, and odors that get on your pillow, becoming a breeding ground for bacteria and dust mites.
Since we lay our heads on them every night, it’s important to maintain them regularly. We recommend cleaning them about once a month to keep your bed clean, fresh… and frankly, more comfortable!
Baking soda and white wine vinegar: the magic pair
This is a classic, natural cleaning product, and for good reason! Baking soda and white wine vinegar are a very effective combination against stubborn stains and unpleasant odors.
How to do it?
Place the pillow in the washing machine.
Add 8 tablespoons of baking soda and ½ cup (about 100 ml) of white wine vinegar directly into the drum.
Start a gentle cycle at 40 °C, then let the pillow air dry, preferably in the sun, for a natural bleaching effect.
Lemon and hot water: a cleansing bath.
With its antibacterial and degreasing properties, lemon is perfect for thoroughly refreshing pillows. Of course, it also leaves a fresh scent.
Quick recipe:
Heat about 2.5 liters of water (do not boil).
Add the juice of 6 fresh lemons.
Soak your pillow in this mixture and let it soak for 2 hours.
Rinse thoroughly and let it air dry in the sun.
Baking soda and tea tree oil: for gentle cleaning.
This tip is perfect if you’re looking for a quick, no-tools solution. Tea tree oil not only has bleaching properties, but it also naturally disinfects hair and eliminates odors.
